Losonci x Jakab Pinot Noir 2024

5 500 Ft

Limited edition – only 616 bottles produced.

Collab – a wine born from the shared passion for Pinot Noir between two friends. As a delightful coincidence, even their dogs bear an uncanny resemblance.

At Bálint Losonci’s Mátra winery, Pinot Noir has always held a defining role. Back when he was still considered a newcomer, it was this very variety that first drew the attention of wine experts – and earned him accolades from wine lovers alike.

The grapes for this collaboration were grown entirely by us, but the wine itself was crafted by Bálint, shaped to reflect his own taste. Even in the years leading up to 2024, he had been increasingly drawn to the world of carbonic maceration – a winemaking method best known from Beaujolais Nouveau – so it comes as no surprise that he chose this approach for the fruit of this unconventional vintage.

The result is a refreshingly fruity wine with a lower alcohol content. On the nose, fresh raspberry, tart sour cherry, and Chinese aster take the lead, while a subtle flinty note in the background hints at its Badacsony origins. The red berry aromas carry through to the palate, where the juicy fruit feels almost biteable. A pleasant tanginess elevates the wine’s drinkability, making it especially satisfying on hot summer days.

Best enjoyed lightly chilled – think of it more as a dark rosé than a traditional red.

Description

Winemaking

Hand-harvested, whole-cluster fermentation. A red wine made using carbonic maceration, with one week of skin contact. Aged for 8 months in breathable vessels.

Vintage

A notably warm year, marked by early budbreak and an early harvest. Until the end of June, rainfall was adequate, but July and August brought hot, drought-like conditions. Harvest began on 13 August with Pinot Noir selected for sparkling base wine, and concluded in the first week of September with Kéknyelű, the last variety to be picked. The vintage is characterised by concentrated fruit and structure, yet retains a restrained alcohol level.
